At this life stage, I am now able to reflect and channel my younger self as a wide eyed art student. Photographic art is very important in helping connecting the dots in a complex world. It provides us the only opportunity to make time stand still. Summer days go by fast, children grow up and old friends seem to get older. The experience always slips away, the photograph will always remain. To quote Neil Peart: “Art as expression, not as market campaigns….will still capture our imagination. Given the same state of integrity, it will surely help us along…”
In my first year of college, I studied Fine Art & Photography. Although I was in love with the coursework, my “working-class roots” were telling me to focus on a marketable trade so I could support myself in the future. I switched majors and earned a degree in Human Services and Psychology from the University of Hartford. After graduation, I spent about 4 years working with the Elderly and their families. Like any professional career, it was tough at times. But looking back, I had a lot of enjoyment helping for such caring families cope with memory impairment & loss, training new staff members, and pitching marketing plans to large corporations.
